Employment Discrimination

Pregnancy Discrimination

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Workplace Pregnancy Discrimination Attorneys

What is Pregnancy Discrimination?
Pregnancy discrimination involves treating a female employee (or applicant) unfavorably because of pregnancy, childbirth, or a medical condition related to pregnancy or childbirth. The law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, such as leave and health insurance, and any other term or condition of employment.

Women who are pregnant or who have recently given birth may also have additional rights under the Family Medical Leave Act to take a medical leave prior to or after giving birth.

The attorneys at the Pittsburgh law firm of Stember Feinstein Doyle Payne & Kravec have a successful history representing women throughout Pennsylvania in pregnant discrimination and other employment law cases. Contact our experienced job discrimination lawyers to learn how we can help you.

Examples of Pregnancy Discrimination
Our attorneys will discuss your legal options to pursue litigation for discrimination based on pregnancy, including cases such as:

  • An employer provides personal leave for employees to take courses but forbids personal leave to take care of a new child.

  • An employer permits temporarily disabled employees to modify tasks, perform “light duty” work or take a disability leave, but does not permit an employee who is temporarily disabled due to pregnancy to do the same.

  • An employer refuses to hire a qualified woman applicant for a position because she is pregnant.

Our firm's attorneys have a record of successfully pursuing pregnancy discrimination lawsuits against employers who allow unfair treatment, or treat women differently because they are pregnant. If you are a woman who believes your employer may be guilty of pregnancy discrimination, we can provide the background, skill and experience to help you fight back.
